Mrs. Alice Witherspoon Mitchell, 90 years old, wife of the late Rev. T.W. Mitchell Jr. went home to be with the Lord February 25th 2018 at the home of her daughter.
Born in Sumter, she was the daughter of the late C.D. and Essie Witherspoon. She graduated from Edmunds High School in 1945. She enjoyed her life as a homemaker and being a wife of a minister. Her daughters thought she was the greatest mom ever. She loved God and enjoyed serving Him in any way she could. During her life was served on the South Carolina District Nazarene Church Missionary Council (NMI) for 27 years and taught Sunday School classes for about 50 years. Her favorite pass time was being surrounded by her children and all the families and spending time with them.
Survivors include three daughters, Dale M. Mellish of Sumter, Delores M. Parnell (Gene) of Camden, and Denise M. Steele (Frankie) of Batesburg; seven grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren and eight great-great grandchildren; sister in law, Tootsie Witherspoon Coward (Mendel); and a number of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Roberta Powell (Dick); three brothers, Sullivan Witherspoon (Margaret), Clyde Witherspoon (Annielee), and Norwood Witherspoon; and several nephews and a niece.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Sumter First Church of the Nazarene with the Rev. Dr. James Thrower, the Rev. Libby Newman, the Rev. Donnie Witherspoon, and the Rev. David Snodgrass. Burial will be in the Sumter Cemetery.
Grandsons, great grandsons, and great granddaughters will serve as pallbearers.
Honorary pallbearers will be nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Honorary guest will be ministers and wives from the Church of the Nazarene.
The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at Sumter First Church of the Nazarene prior to the service and other times at 107 Thomas Drive, Sumter.
Memorials may be made to the D. Moody Gunter Camp and Retreat Center of the Church of the Nazarene, 1420 Nazarene Road, Batesburg, South Carolina 29006 and to the Batesburg Church of the Nazarene, 1025 Thaxton Lane, Batesburg, South Carolina 29006.
