James A "Sonny"  Prescott Jr.
James A. “Sonny” Prescott, Jr. 74, husband of Helen Holland Prescott, died Thursday, January 25, 2018, at Palmetto Health Tuomey.

Born June 27, 1943, in Sumter, he was a son of the late James A. Prescott, Sr. and the late Louise Osborne Prescott. He was raised by his grandparents, Charlie Warren Osborne and Margaret Newton Osborne. After graduating from Mayewood High School, he served a few years in the U.S. Army. He retired from CSX Railroad after 32 years of service. Sonny was a member of Concord Presbyterian Church where he served as a Deacon and an Elder for many years. His passion was fishing and hunting for many years. He taught many young friends and relatives how to fish and hunt.

He is survived by his wife; son, Monty Craig Prescott; a daughter, Wanda Prescott Baker and her husband, Tripp; a granddaughter, Victoria Skinner Bibb and her husband, Tyler of Seneca; and a special aunt, Ima Lee Jones.

A funeral service will be held at 3 P.M. Sunday at Concord Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Dane Deatherage and Mr. Allen Jones officiating. Burial will follow in the Concord Presbyterian Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Bill Dority, Steve Alsbrooks, Roger Calcutt, Larry Lasseigne, Phil Prescott, and Tommy Jackson.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 P.M. Saturday at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and other times at the home.

Memorials may be made to Concord Presbyterian Church, 3350 East Brewington Rd., Sumter, SC 29153.

Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and Crematorium of Sumter is in charge of the arrangements.
