Peter Lawson Whitaker, Sr., 57, died Tuesday, January 16, 2018.

Born May 4, 1960, in Henderson, NC, he was a son of the late Edsel V. Whitaker, Sr. and the late Mima Joy Champion Whitaker. He was co-owner of Whitaker’s Incorporated.

Survivors include four children, Brandy Lynn Whitaker of Sumter, Candice Whitaker Greenan (John) of Florence, Peter Lawson Whitaker, Jr. of Sumter, and William Davis Whitaker of Sumter; three grandchildren, Tanner Lawson Richburg, Meadow Haze Bradley, and John Joseph Greenan, IV; four brothers, Joe Whitaker of Timmonsville, Whit Whitaker (Jean) of Sumter, Jimmy Whitaker (Judy) of North Carolina, and Michael Whitaker (Tammy) of Sumter; and three sisters, Ketita Chester (James) of Georgia, Joy Whitaker of Sumter, and Jan Whitaker of Sumter.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Jay Eric Whitaker.

Funeral services will be held at 2 P.M. Saturday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints with Bishop Dusty Rhodes officiating. Entombment will be in the Evergreen Memorial Park Mausoleum.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 P.M. Friday at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and other times at 108 Gleaton St.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in memory of Mima Joy Champion Whitaker to the ALS Association-SC Chapter, 7499 Parklane Rd #144, Columbia, SC 29223.
