Obituary for Joseph George "Joe" Wilt

Joseph George “Joe” Wilt, 72, husband of Myra E. Wilt, died Sunday, January 7, 2018, at Palmetto Health Tuomey.

Born August 30, 1945, in Altoona, Pennsylvania, he was a son of the late Clarence William Wilt and the late Elizabeth “Betty” Fara Wilt. He was a member of Alice Drive Baptist Church and retired as an electrician from the City of Sumter. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War. He enjoyed restoring old cars.

Survivors include his wife of 50 years; a daughter, Donna Wilt Hill (Jason) of Eastover; two grandchildren, Cory Carpenter and Katelyn Carpenter; a brother, Clarence “Butch” Wilt (Mary Jane) of Cresson, Pennsylvania; and a sister, Mary Weaver of Havelock, North Carolina.

Funeral services will be held at 12 Noon Wednesday in the Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Dr. Clay Smith officiating. Burial with military honors will be in the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 11 A.M. to 12 Noon Wednesday at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and other times at the home.

Memorials may be made to Gift of Life Donor Program, 401 North Third St., Philadelphia, Pennsylvania 19123.

Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and Crematorium of Sumter is in charge of the arrangements.
