Obituary for Leon Lands

Leon Lands, 83, widower of Evelyn Shirly Lorance Lands, died Monday, October 16, 2017 at a Columbia nursing facility.

Born in Morehead, KY, he was a son of the late Boone Lands and the late Rora Kissinger Lands. Mr. Lands attended Alice Drive Baptist Church. He retired from the U.S. Air Force after more than twenty-seven years of service and was a veteran of the Vietnam War. Following his retirement, he worked with civil service at Shaw AFB as a housing inspector and was a welding instructor at Central Carolina Technical College.

Survivors include one son, Doug Lands (Jan) of Macon, GA; one daughter, Rhesa Duncan (Patrick) of Dallas, TX; three grandchildren, Seth Duncan (Amanda), Emily Duncan, and Sarah Duncan; and one great grandchild, Savannah Grace Duncan.

A funeral service will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday in the Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Dr. Clay Smith officiating.

The family will receive friends from 3 to 4 p.m. Thursday at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home.

A graveside service with full military honors will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Cherry Cemetery in Woodbury, TN.

Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and Crematorium of Sumter is in charge of the arrangements.
