The Reverend Freddie Gaymon went home to be with his Lord Thursday morning, August 31, 2017, after a lengthy illness.

Born October 9, 1926 in Olanta, he was a son of the late Alfred and Mary Gaymon. He worked for Norwood Furniture Company and Sumter Concrete Company before entering the ministry in 1962. Rev. Gaymon pastored in the Sumter area for 42 years. He pastored several churches with the Free Will Baptist-Pentecostal Faith Conference of SC, including Greeleyville, Sumter, Frierson’s Taberrnacle (in Lake City) and 20 years at Smithville Evangelical Baptist Church in Sumter. He also served as Christian Education Director of the Conference for four years. Rev Gaymon was widely known for his love of Gospel Music and gardening.

Rev. Gaymon is survived by his wife of 72 years, Monte McElveen Gaymon, of the home; two sons, John H. “Hal” Gaymon (Susan) of Greenville and F. Michael “Mike” Gaymon (Shelia) of Columbus, GA; as well as 6 grandchildren, 2 step grandsons, 14 great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his six siblings.

Funeral services will be held at 3pm Sunday at the Free Will Baptist, Pentecostal Faith Conference headquarters, 3868 Puddin' Swamp Rd., Turbeville, SC.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home, and from 2 to 3 p.m. Sunday at the Free Will Baptist, Pentecostal Faith Conference headquarters and other times at the home.

Memorials may be made to Amedisys Hospice Care in Sumter.
