Obituary for Frances Plemons (Charles)

Frances Charles Plemons, 87, beloved wife of 60 years to the late Harlin Ray Plemons, passed away Saturday, August 19, 2017, at her home.

Born in Chatsworth, Georgia she was the eldest daughter of the late James Robert Charles and the late Mae Quarles Charles.

Survivors include five children, Mildred Frances Hughes (Harold), Kyle Ray Plemons (Julie), Robert Dillard Plemons Sr. (Iva), and Richard Eugene Plemons, all of Sumter, SC, and Theresa Mae Plemons of Iowa; grandchildren, Donna Hughes, Jamie Plemons (Dawn), Tonya Porter (Rob), Grant Hughes (Samantha), Kenneth Sorenson (Pauline), Robert Plemons Jr. (Vickie), Kyle Plemons (Natalye), Ariel Plemons, Reann Ellis, Emilee Ellis, Steven Sanderson (Lisa), and Jude Paul; 20 great-grandchildren; three great-great- grandchildren; sisters, Mildred Avin (Buddy), Betty Thames (Pete), Leovia Charles and Mary Jane McLeod (Charlie); and brothers Bob Charles, Boyd Charles (Ylonda) and Tom Charles (Dallen).

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harlin Plemons; daughters-in-law, Diane Plemons and Miriam Plemons; brother, Kimsey Charles; sisters, Argia, Juanita, and Gladys; and three grandchildren.

Ms. Plemons was a long-time member of Providence Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School for 50 years.

She enjoyed working in her garden and always had beautiful flowers on her sandy little hill. Time not spent watching her chickens and flowers grow were spent making quilts or blankets for those in need. If you were friend or family of a new baby you could look forward to getting a blanket to wrap your new little joy in. Then when they were old enough they would come to Sunday school to be taught about God.

Funeral services will be held at 3 P.M. Wednesday, August 23, at Providence Baptist Church with Pastor Wayne McElveen officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 P.M. Tuesday at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home, from 2 to 3 P.M. Wednesday at Providence Baptist Church, and other times at the home.

Memorials may be made to Providence Baptist Church, 2445 Old Manning Rd., Sumter, SC 29150.

Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and Crematorium of Sumter is in charge of the arrangements.
