Lawrence “Larry” Buford Scott, age 76, beloved husband of 20 years to Betty H. Scott, passed away on Monday, July 17, 2017, at the home.
Born in Brimson, MO on October 18, 1940, he was the son of the late Gordon Scott and the late Carrie Smith Scott.
Larry served 21 years in the U.S. Air Force from 1958 to 1979 in Texas, Kansas, Greenland, Michigan, Illinois, Ohio, Spain, Thailand, Germany, and Arizona. He then worked for the Federal Government at Luke AFB as a mechanic until 1985 at which time he transferred to Shaw AFB to work in the AFETS program until he retired in 1999. All total he worked 42 years for the Federal Government. He then worked for the state park system at Poinsett State Park before going to work at Central Carolina Technical College as maintenance supervisor for seven years.
Larry loved his life in the military and also enjoyed camping, fishing, bowling, motorcycle riding, canoeing, and kayaking. He was a member of the Christian Motorcycle Association. He was a member of Faith Presbyterian Church and served as a deacon.
Larry will be remembered as a very loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife, Betty; his four children by his first wife, Gail Shaw: Simona Donato, David Scott, and Brett Scott (Christina) all of Tucson, AZ and Brian Scott of the home; two step-children, Amy Alsbrooks (David) of Sumter and Jon Russell and Monica of Hartsville, SC; two brothers, Raymond Scott (Naomi) of Trenton, MO and Curtis Scott (Ruth) of Springfield, MO; a sister, Roberta Allen (Kenneth-deceased) of Trenton, MO; eight grandchildren, Jason, Brandon, Brooke, Brittany (Josh) Kimberling, Christian, Tyler, Miranda, and David John Lauchner; three step-grandchildren, Rachel and Megan Oakley, and Alyson Broach; and five great-grandchildren, Jayden Scott, Ezekiel, Eden and Evelyn Kimberling, and Faith Scott.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Carole Dykes; and a daughter, Michelle Scott.
A funeral service will be held at 3 P.M. Friday at Faith Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Thomas Timmons officiating. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery with full military honors.
Pallbearers will be members of the CMA (Christian Motorcyclists Association). Patriot Guard will also participate in the ceremony.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 P.M. Friday at Faith Presbyterian Church, 65 Lynam Rd.
