Obituary for Addison L "Roy" Osborne Sr.

Addison L. “Roy” Osborne, Sr., 76, husband of Shirley G. Osborne, died Wednesday, May 31, 2017, at Lexington Medical Center.

Born July 8, 1940, in Turbeville, he was a son of the late William Henry Osborne and the late Clarisa Jane Osborne. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church where he had served as a deacon. He was a Chief Petty Officer in the U.S. Navy and retired from the civil service at Shaw Air Force Base. Roy loved his family and friends. He enjoyed working on his backhoe and going to the Sportsman’s Stop and Go.

Survivors include his beloved wife of 51 years; two children, Addison L. “Al” Osborne, Jr. (Lisa) of Sumter and Kim Osborne of Murrells Inlet; two grandchildren, Allison “Alli” Osborne and Addison L. “Oz” Osborne, III; a special niece, Joyce Pierson Wise (Mark) of Sumter; a brother, Hugh Osborne of Sumter; and three sisters, Elsie Speer of Greenwood, and Daisy B. Polson and Nancy Carraway both of Sumter.

He was preceded in death by siblings, Tommy Osborne, Linnie “Totsie” Bryant, Claudie Osborne, Dennis Osborne, and Charlie Osborne.

Funeral services will be held at 3 P.M. Sunday at Bethel Baptist Church with the Rev. Larry Fraser and the Rev. Dale Turner officiating. Burial with military honors will be in the Bethel Baptist Church cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Bryan Dively, Mark Dively, Derek Geddings, Jamie Geddings, Brandon Beach, and Ryan Steen.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 P.M. Sunday at Bethel Baptist Church and other times at the home.

Memorials may be made to Bethel Baptist Church Building and Grounds Fund, 2401 Bethel Church Rd., Sumter, SC 29154.

Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and Crematorium of Sumter is in charge of the arrangements.
