Obituary for Hubert Douglas "Little Doug" Hodge

Hubert Douglas “Little Doug” Hodge, 82, widower of Vera Ridgeway Hodge and Helen Baker Gowdy Hodge, died Thursday, April 13, 2017 at Palmetto Health Tuomey.

Born November 21, 1934, in Sumter, he was a son of the late Willie Douglas “Big Doug” Hodge and the late Rebecca Gertrude Ecord Hodge. He served in the SC National Guard. He was formerly employed at Williams Furniture, and retired as a truck driver having worked for Independent Transfer, Blue Ridge Trucking, Brown Transport, and Hodge Trucking Company. He was as member of Providence Baptist Church. One of his favorite outings was enjoying gospel music at the Country Music Barn on Thursday evenings.

Survivors include five daughters, Wanda Hodge Duke (David) of Manning, Robin Dollard (Ernie) of Sumter, Priscilla Baker (Dallas) of Manning, Janet Lynn Jones of Sumter and Brenda Gayle Gowdy (Kevin) of Sumter; three sons, Chris Hodge of Sumter, Danny Hodge (Deb) of Swansea, and Eddie Hodge of Honea Path; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; a brother, Charles Lamar Hodge of Sumter; three sisters, Cena Hodge Secor (Jack), Alma Hodge Smith, and Brenda H. Hodge (Dean) all of Sumter; a special niece, Judy Snidar of Lexington; a special friend, Richard Lowrance of Sumter; and his special furry friend, Ronald “Reagan”.

Funeral services will be held at 4 P.M. Monday at Providence Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Harold Greene, the Rev. Pat Coffey, and Pastor Wayne McElveen officiating. Burial will be in the Providence Baptist Church cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Hansel Hodge, Eric Hodge, Garett Hodge, David Secor, Brandon Hodge, and Troy Hodge.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Senior Citizen Sunday School Class of Providence Baptist Church, Kenny Bryant, and James Bryant.

The family will receive friends from 3 to 4 P.M. Monday at Providence Baptist Church and other times at the home.
